Anatomy & Physiology
3 Credits

Anatomy and Physiology covers a variety of subjects that relate to the human body, with an emphasis on information needed by aspiring health professionals. The course discussed the physiology of the human body, including surveys of the major organ systems of the body as well as the underlying biochemistry and cellular concepts that are the building blocks for human life. The course also focuses on diseases that impact the various human systems and the ways in which the body itself and treatment from health professionals can help maintain homeostasis. The course concludes with the way in which the human anatomy changes over time and the differences between healthy aging and problems that tend to affect the body as we age.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the significance of various organ systems in the body

  • Describe the biochemical principles that allow cells, tissues and organs to function

  • Describe the way in which the skeletal and muscular systems cooperate for life processes such as locomotion

  • Discuss the various ways in which the body is regulated, including the roles of the nervous and endocrine systems

  • Determine which disruptions to homeostasis are likely to result from various external and internal stimuli

  • Explain homestasis and the threats that can arise from its disruption

  • Identify tests that are conducted to diagnose problems with the functioning of the human anatomy

  • Relate the lessons of the human anatomy to principles that allied health professionals are required to use on a daily basis
