This course is the study of the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of the child from conception to adolescence. Topics include prenatal development, physical, cognitive, personality, and social/emotional development during infancy, early childhood, and middle childhood.

At the completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Describe developmental psychology's theoretical perspectives and research methods, genetic and environmental influences on development, development in the womb, the birth process, and the characteristics of newborns.
Analyze research and theory regarding cognitive, emotional, and social childhood development.
Interpret research and theory regarding cognitive, emotional and social development in adolescence.
Foster the development of communication and critical thinking skills, both necessary to evaluate developmental research as a science and as presented in popular media.
